Rejuvenation

Such an amazing year we had, climbing Kilimanjaro, going on Safari, relaxing on the beaches of Zanzibar, seeing the Northern lights and mushing a dogsled. What’s next? I muse as I sift through the thousands of photos that chronicle our year.
Europe is on the list for 2015 and yet seems so far away, too early to plan.

Then it happened, a group of friends 12 to be exact are running the New York Marathon and now John and I will too.

My training began yesterday with a 5km run. Today I’ve read every word of the Runners World magazine and last night I fell asleep searching for fancy new shoes.

I ran this race in 2006 and generally never do the same thing twice and yet this will be different and the same. I’m running and training with my husband and our Kilimanjaro friends and enjoying the same tour of New York City.

Life never ceases to amaze me, with its twists, turns and curve balls. I never imagined this until we said yes and perhaps that is the best advice? Say yes, and figure the details out later.
Hang on tight, your life is waiting.

Writing and photography are my first and second loves and thanks to technology I have the ability to share with a larger audience, including family and friends. Gone are the days of lugging around photo albums after a trip and of keeping a written journal of the experience that only I would view. The days of the handwritten letters are gone, but blogging provides a chance to share ideas, thoughts and photographs with a few mouse clicks and to receive instant feedback from around the world. It provides an opportunity to research a new place and to see that place through the eyes of a multitude of people each with their own unique way of viewing and experiencing the world. It opens the world wide and allows us a front row seat. Blogging connects us and creates a family of support. It provides an outlet and a chance to perfect the craft of writing and story telling. When I sit in my living room drinking my coffee and see that someone from another part of the world has read my words, and then I read theirs, the world is much smaller and more attainable. We are more alike than different as we share uniquely human experiences. Once I had a dream of becoming a Journalist, but somehow life got in the way. I currently have a fantastic career in healthcare and know that I have made a difference so I have no regrets. Still, I wonder if there is time to explore the road less travelled?

  2. I was surprised to hear you are running the marathon again, but what a great idea. This time pacing the course with John and friends that you went through the Kili experience with will make NYC even more better. Looking forward to hearing of your successes. (Susan L.)

    1. It is a truly magical city and does seem to call me. I have fond memories of the first marathon and spending time wandering the streets with you and Danielle. What is calling your name?

    1. It was sad to hear about the prevalence of AIDS. Our driver told us that much work has been in terms of education nut has not been succesful as the men will not abstain. It is a complex problem for certain
